Widget 0.27: the full map over your page

With cta-target="overlay", the “View on full map” button, the stage map and the details in the popups open the full map as a dialog over your page: with a margin on desktop, full screen on phones. Guests get back with “Back to the page”, with Escape or with a click beside the map, and your page is just as they left it. The prerequisite is that we add your website to your map’s configuration. Without that entry, or if your Content Security Policy blocks the frame, the widget opens a new tab as before. Map and widget now also write distances and areas in the respective language. What you need to do: nothing, the contract version stays at 2. If you want the overlay, set the attribute and tell us the address of the page. You can try it as variant 14 in the showcase; the details are in Die große Karte über Ihrer Seite (in German).

The map shows what belongs

Whoever draws a reach area or makes a selection now sees only the places and tours that belong to it. Everything else steps back, and the map says how many places and tours remain. Tours show their waypoints as numbered markers, each with its own popup, and the elevation profile carries the same numbers. Try it: Draw a reach area in the demo

API

Widget 0.24.0: new icons without a new release

The widget now loads popup icons from the destination’s own deploy and falls back to the bundled ones otherwise. A new icon or a redrawn marker is therefore visible straight away, without a widget release and without up to an hour of cache. A long cta-label is now truncated with an ellipsis instead of wrapping. What you need to do: nothing, the contract version stays at 2. The version overview (in German) lists the current state.

API

Widget 0.23.0: theming via CSS variables

Since 0.23.0, --pm-widget-accent, --pm-widget-text, --pm-widget-surface and --pm-widget-font are stable names, alongside the existing --pm-widget-radius. You set them on the widget or on an ancestor. Without them nothing changes, and --pm-widget-font takes precedence over the destination’s typeface. The internal --color-* names are not part of the contract and may change. Details: CSS variables (in German).

Announcement

pixel.map has a home now

Welcome to the new pixel.map website. From now on you’ll find everything about the product here, alongside the developer docs — and ongoing updates about new features right in this changelog. New on board is the trip planner: guests collect places, tours and tips into a day trip, pixel.map lays out the route and turns it into a link that can be shared. Try it in the demo: Plan a day trip

API

Widget 0.22.0: selection by ID comes into view

Since 0.22.0, an embed with poi-ids, tour-ids, accommodation-ids, event-ids or experience-ids fits the view to the selected records once loaded. A single record is centred, and fit-max-zoom caps the zoom (default 14). Until now the map stayed on the destination’s initial view, and the selection was often outside the frame. What you need to do: nothing, unless you want to keep the old view, in which case put both center and zoom on the embed. Category lists do not trigger the fit.

Product

Day trips by bus and train

The trip planner now plans day trips by bus and train too. Between the stops, pixel.map finds the right connections, changes included. That makes a whole day without a car possible, wherever your region has timetable data.

API

Widget 0.21.0: booking-cta becomes a list

Since 0.21.0, booking-cta is a list of pois, accommodations, events and experiences, its default is empty and the contract version goes up to 2. Without the attribute no popup carries a link any more, including the page link added in 0.19.0. What you need to do: set the attribute explicitly, for example booking-cta="auto" for every type with a template, and check tools that drop default values when serialising. Links for accommodation are new, and since 0.19.0 tour-route="always" draws the tour line straight away. Details: widget attributes (in German).

Product

Your typeface in map and widget

The full map and the widget can now use your brand’s typeface, set up per destination. In the widget, a popup can also link to your own page for the place or event. Popups open as a dialog, close with Escape and show the keyboard focus clearly. Screen readers announce the map’s name in the language of the page.

Product

The trip planner makes a day plan

Guests collect places and tours in the trip planner, and pixel.map now turns them into a day plan: an overview map with the whole route and the stops as a timeline. Guests print the plan or save it as a PDF. pixel.map works out the legs in between by car, on foot or by bike. Try it in the demo: Plan a day trip
